With a Humanitarian Device Exemption from the Food and Drug Administration, Activa DBS is indicated as an aid in the management of chronic, intractable (drug refractory) primary dystonia, including generalized and segmental dystonia, hemidystonia, and cervical dystonia (torticollis), for individuals seven years of age and older. By delivering electrical stimulation to the brain, Activa DBS may decrease some symptoms of dystonia.
